Unlike many family destinations on either the East Coast or the West Coast, Texas has a bit of a heat-related stigma that makes it stand out as a place to avoid during the summer. But let’s get one thing straight: Texas is the sort of place you’ll want to be this summer for some wholesome fun and a lifetime of memories, all close enough to home that you can avoid the expenses of airfare and rental cars.
Let’s begin with a classic Texas destination, Corpus Christi. The Texas Gulf Coast has a long and storied tradition of spring time and summer fun for people of all interests and ages, and the greater Corpus Christi area seems to be the perfect ambassador for all that the Texas coast has to offer. It’s hard to sum up what you’ll find in Corpus Christi, from the many miles of gorgeous beaches, excellent fishing, and nightlife, to the ample assortment of cultural and family fun destinations. You’re sure to find something for everyone!
Another staple of Texas vacationing is the historic island of Galveston. This Texas favorite traces its roots back to the early 1800’s, Galveston has evolved into a thriving city with a host of attractions for beach goers, adventurers, and nature lovers alike. Popular attractions include the renowned Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, and the amazing Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.
If you fancy a trip inland as opposed to the coast, the Texas Hill Country is where it’s at! Among places to visit, be sure to include New Braunfels on your list. Home to America’s #1 water park, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, you’d think that was enough reason to find your way into the Hill Country. But you’d be wrong. The New Braunfels area also hosts Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest caverns in Texas, as well as the beautiful Landa Park. While your’re there, take some time to explore other areas in the Hill Country and set aside a few hours just to drive and take in the beautiful scenery. You’ll be glad that you did!
In spite of the notorious heat, you’ll find plenty of reasons to relax in Texas this summer. Maybe these destinations will be a first, or maybe you’ll return and make some new memories. Either way, Texas has everything you need for a fantastic summer trip.
